Stephen Menotti has focused on developing a modern repertoire as a soloist and chamber musician. His passion for contemporary music has led him to perform with numerous ensembles and it continues to grow through regular collaborations with composers. Stephen has appeared as a soloist at several festivals including the Lucerne Festival, Zeiträume Festival Basel, Musik Festival Bern, Festival d’autumne Paris, and in many productions of operas by Karlheinz Stockhausen: with the Birmingham Opera Company, Musica Viva München, Theater Basel, and at the Holland Festival. Stephen studied at Oberlin Conservatory with James Desano, and has studied contemporary music and trombone performance at the Hochschule für Müsik in Basel and music pedagogy with David Bruchez at the Zürcher Hochschule der Kunste. Stephen lives in Basel, is a founding member of the Eunoia Quintet and les trombones de Bâle. He is a member of Collegium Novum Zürich and, since 2021, principal trombone of the Basel Sinfonietta.
