Stephen Menotti is a freelancing trombonist living in Basel, Switzerland. Stephen was born in State College, Pennsylvania. He studied Mike Svoboda, James Desano, and Mark Lusk. After completing his Bachelors at Oberlin Conservatory, he lived in New York as a freelance musician for two years before moving to Europe. He completed the Masters in New Music and a Masters in Trombone Performance at the Musikhochschule in Basel. His passion for contemporary music has led him to perform with numerous ensembles including musikFabrik, Remix Ensemble, Collegium Novum Zürich, Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Phoenix and the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE). As an avid chamber musician, he is a founding member of the Eunoia Quintett. He is an avid performer of Stockhausen’s music and has appeared as a soloist in the world premiere of MITTWOCH aus LICHT in Birmingham, UK and in SAMSTAG aus LICHT with the Bayerischer Rundfunk in Munich.
